SPEECH IS POWER

WITH ENEMIES LIKE THIS WHO NEEDS FRIENDS?

220-215 was a close vote. Three votes in the other direction and it would have failed, so the 215- 220 breaks down to only two votes to spare.  We’ll take a look at those in a moment. The House of Representatives passed the Health Care Reform Bill after 11 hours of debate. HR 3962 squeaked by on Saturday, November 7, 2009 with the help of one lone Republican-Joseph Cao of Louisiana. He crossed the line and voted a rare Republican commodity—his conscience. As his Press Secretary, Princella Smith pointed out to me he was from the economically depressed Second District of Louisiana. His 54% African-American District was devastated by Katrina and has many people that will benefit greatly from Health Care Reform. When faced with the aftermath of Katrina blind party loyalty had to succumb to common sense for the common good.

However, bipartisanship did not end there.  In the classic sense of too Far East is West, Sarah Palin went so far to the right that she helped to rescue the left. She has taken up the charge against the Democrats through her Face Book Account. This is the one isolated place where she doesn’t have to give interviews and can lead her minions against a man that she said, “Palled around with Terrorists” from here she can conjure up more foul things to say about Obama and the party that he leads. It seems that the half term governor cited to punish the moderate Republican candidate and endures Doug Hoffman who is running on the conservative ticket. So many other far right Republican leaders joined her endorsement that Republican candidate, Dede Scozzofava left the race and endorsed Democratic Candidate, Bill Owens. Mr. Owens is now CONGRESSMAN, BILL OWENS.  He is the first democrat to hold that office in the New York 23rd Congressional District since the 1800s. With a strategy this flawed and a defeat that was this obvious, people like Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck saw only 1 outcome. They declared victory. What else? In their minds they had taught the Republican Moderates a lesson.

They also saw victory on another front. Michelle Bachmann, Republican, Minnesota spearheaded a rally on the steps of the Capital.  It was attended by Congressmen like John Culberson, Houston, Texas; Congressman, Jim Jordan from Lima, Ohio; Congressman Donald Manzullo of Rockford, Illinois and other forgettable notables that said other forgettable quotables. They along with the Republican leadership made 1 and 2 minute statements that were low on facts and high in words like ‘Freedom and Country.’ The audience reflected their intellectualism by carrying signs that said things like “Bury Obama Care with Kennedy,” no marks.  No Mao, National Socialist Healthcare Dachau Germany 1945, (this sign had a picture of a stack of Jewish bodies from a concentration camp). And another all time favorite “Ken-ya Trust Obama?” This one was actually autographed by Congressman, Steve King.  Such bold leadership! Isn’t it good to know that the Republicans are in such good hands? With leaders that are leading 5,000 people like this, at a rally, things can only get more interesting. They hadn’t felt this important since Glenn (Military Mercenary Industrial Complex) Beck et al  inflated the 912 March on Washington numbers from 50,000  to 1.7 million.  If the Republicans keep on like this Health Care Reform might succeed. After all with enemies like this who needs friends?
